Are you ready for a West Coast Adventure Cruise?
The MV Uchuck III travels to the remote village of Kyuquot weekly (year round) to deliver much needed groceries and supplies. Enjoy the scenery and wildlife as the MV Uchuck III and her crew deftly navigate the waterways and islands to deliver cargo and passengers on route.
Bring your binoculars and camera! Passengers can expect to see a variety of marine life from bald eagles to sea lions, sea otters and on occasion, even whales. You might have the opportunity to see a kayak ‘wet launch’ when they are lowered on a raft from the ship’s deck at a remote location along the route. Make sure to bring your camera, tablet or cellphone, whatever is your preferred way to take photos or videos of your trip aboard the MV Uchuck III. Stops are made if the vessel comes across a raft of sea otters or whales.
The MV Uchuck III’s friendly and knowledgeable crew, comfortable wood finished lounge, galley and upper deck seating make this marine cruise a perfect way to spend a relaxing day on Vancouver Island’s West Coast. Informative announcements are made along the route at locations of interest.
Follow your nose to the Galley! Our cook prepares hardy West Coast fare daily, including homemade soups, sandwiches or chili. Enjoy muffins hot from the oven and an assortment of other baked goodies along with freshly brewed coffee, all at reasonable prices. You are more than welcome to pack your own snacks and/or meals especially if you have dietary needs. Our kitchen is small and the cook does her best but space is limited.
Do you have a LIFE-THREATENING Food Allergy?
Let us know and please bring your EpiPen. Please understand that our trip is remote in nature and we are limited in our menu selection.
Do you have a FOOD INTOLERANCE?
If you have serious health issues, please do not hesitate to bring your own goodies and snacks. Our cook does her best, but the galley in the Uchuck is small and space is limited. For the overnight adventures it is essential to let us know if you are a vegetarian or are a celiac.
Please be advised that food prepared here may contain these ingredients: Milk, eggs, wheat, soybean, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, and shellfish. If you are celiac, you would have to bring your own food to prevent contamination. This trip goes to a very remote area so you need to be prepared.
Things to consider on this marine tour:
When considering this Vancouver Island Adventure Cruise keep in mind that the Village of Kyuquot is a remote destination and does not offer the amenities and conveniences you’d find in larger centres. It does offer a variety of places to stay. We do try to accommodate your privacy with a private bathroom. Groups traveling together may need to share one depending on which lodging they stay at. Guests with walking disabilities may find this marine tour difficult. Transportation to and from some of the accommodations is by small boat and there are always plenty of stairs. Trip includes accommodations in Kyuquot, dinner on Thursday night and breakfast Friday morning.

FAQ:
1. What are the accommodations like?
The village of Kyuquot has a varied and small quantity of places we can choose from. While they have some rustic charm, most are not 3-5 star hotels or bnb’s. Guests are placed depending on number of beds needed, preference of shared or private bathroom and mobility issues. We have private homes, small cabins, tiny home, floating lodges and once in awhile fishing lodges (in the off season of June and September). There is usually something for everyone though and at the time of booking we try to match people to an accommodation that will best suit them.
2. Can dogs come on this trip?
No we cannot take dogs on this trip for a variety of reasons and mainly because the trip is almost 10 hours with no way for dogs to get off the boat.
3. Is there a lot of walking involved in Kyuquot?
Depending on where you are staying, yes you may have to walk to dinner. The length of the island would be about 20- 25 minutes to walk from one end to the other at a good pace. Not recommended for people who have issues walking if they had to stay in one of the accommodations at the far side of the island. A few of the places will pick up guests in a boat and take them to dinner, but not all of them.
4. What is included in the cost?
The fee includes accommodation, dinner in Kyuquot and breakfast in Kyuquot are included in the fare. The dinners are served at the Kyuquot Inn during the summer months. In the off season, the dinners as well as the breakfast will be served on the Uchuck. Any other meals on board the Uchuck can be put on a tab and paid at the end of the voyage.
5. Do you ever cancel due to bad weather?
Rarely, but yes in the off season the weather can get rather nasty on the outside once the vessel leaves protected waters for 2 hours en route to Kyuquot. Always a full refund if this happens.
6. Can I smoke on the Uchuck?
No, there is no smoking allowed on the Uchuck.
